The most overlooked street in London
In an area that is governed by planning restrictions prohibiting high rise buildings, "the most overlooked" means the most low profile - high street in London, Mount Street, Mayfair W1.
In the 1960's Max Caulfield wrote in Queen magazine, that Mount Street was "perhaps the most overlooked street in London". He went on to add that "the proportions, though rooted in the eighteenth century, are scarcely less medieval than the City's. From top to bottom, it is 513 yards long: just a baker's dozen form kerb to kerb. Yet within such a skimped confines, there is an almost sheer indulgence in Sinbadic splendours".
In 1995 W. W. Ellis, archivist for the Grosvenor Estate remarked "Since the beginning of this century it has become a mixture of exclusive shops, business premises and residential flats and houses, built in neo-French Renaisance or Queen Anne style with much terracotta and red brick that gives to the whole street a feeling of quality and warmth almost alien to a modern thoroughfare, imaginatively reminiscent of an earlier, more civilized era".
As Mayfair's specialist estate agent with offices in the heart of Mount Street by the entrance to Mount Street Gardens, Peter Wetherell has over twenty years experience in selling homes in London's No. 1 area.
