20 Upper Brook Street
Sold

A substantial Grade II listed Georgian house

Built in 1737, consisting of 940.5 sq.m. (10,124 sq.ft.)
of accommodation over six floors

Upper Brook Street        Upper Brook Street runs from Park Lane to Grosvenor Square and is one of the principal streets on the Grosvenor Estate. Building began in 1721, but was not completed at the West End until 1759 when about a quarter of the houses in the street were occupied by people of Title. The street remained almost entirely residential until 1939. However by the end of the second World War, many houses in the area had been given over to commercial use. Temporary office permissions ended in the early 1990's with many buildings reverting to residential use. This, with the support of the City of Westminster, the Grosvenor Estate and the BP Pension Fund have combined to re-establish the area residentially.

Although No. 20 retains its old plan, the house has been embellished over the years with a stucco coating to the front, a rear addition, a doric porch (designed by Thomas Cundy II), window dressing and a First Floor Balcony.

The house was totally refurbished during the three years prior to 1997. The refurbished house retained all the old character and features of the past while introducing the services required for today's living. Further modifications by the present owner have again enhanced the technical specifications of the house to include ISDN lines, a sophisticated telephone system with 26 lines and wiring for a video conference system.

The house now has a lift, a modern heating and cooling system, secondary glazing in the front rooms as well as a magnificent swimming pool under the garden. It also has the advantage of an attractive outlook over the garden to the ornate facade of the mews house beyond.
